Rialto Market hours and days
The Rialto Market sits on the San Polo side of the Rialto Bridge. It is two markets, not one. The fish market, the Pescheria, runs from Tuesday to Saturday. The fruit and vegetable market runs from Monday to Saturday. Both are closed on Sunday.
That means Monday is not a closed day for the whole market. On Monday the fish market is shut and the produce stalls are open. Plan a Monday visit around fruit and vegetables only.
Entry to the market is free. You pay only for what you buy. For a guided visit with tastings, see the Venice food tours around Rialto. Market and food tours run on selected weekdays, so check the days of each tour.

Our pick: the market with tastings
Our take: the lunchtime walk starts at the stalls, so plan it for a market day.

The opening hours do not guarantee that every stall is staffed until closing. For most visitors, the best plan is a morning between Tuesday and Saturday, when both markets are open.
Where the Rialto Market is
The fish market stands in the Campo de le Becarie, in two halls called the Loggia Grande and the Loggia Piccola. It sells fish and shellfish. The fruit and vegetable market is in San Polo too, at the Casaria and the Campo de la Pescheria.
Old names shape the area. The Erbaria was the vegetable market, the Naranzeria the oranges, the Casaria the cheese and the Pescheria the fish. These are historic place names. They do not promise that each zone still sells only that product.
Stand positions and operators can change, so use the layout as a rough guide and follow the signs on site.

Tips for visiting the Rialto Market
Short and practical.
Go in the morning
Aim to arrive before noon, and do not count on every stall being staffed until the evening.
Pick your day
Tuesday to Saturday gives you both markets. On Monday only the produce market is open. On Sunday neither is.
Come by water
Vaporetto line 1 stops at Rialto Mercato, right at the market, and also at Rialto. The city's step-free route to the market district uses the boat. For lines and tickets, see the Vaporetto line 1 guide and our getting there page.
Add the bridge
The market sits beside the bridge on the San Polo side. A morning here fits well with a walk over the arch and a look from the Riva del Vin.
