How to get to the Rialto Bridge
The Ponte di Rialto links San Polo and San Marco in the middle of Venice, so there is no road to it. You arrive on foot or by boat. Most visitors take the vaporetto, the public water bus, to the stop called Rialto. Others walk in from the station or from the car terminal at Piazzale Roma.
The bridge itself is a public footpath. There is no ticket for crossing it and no separate entry fee. If you want a guide for the area, our Venice walking tour page compares routes that pass through Rialto. How to reach Venice from the airport is covered at Marco Polo airport to Venice.

Getting to Rialto by vaporetto
Two stops, two lines, and one thing to keep straight.
Rialto and Rialto Mercato are different stops
Line 1 serves both. Rialto Mercato is on the market side. Rialto is its own stop at the bridge. Line 2 also calls at Rialto, though sections and operating hours differ from Line 1. For the bridge, ride to Rialto. For the fish and vegetable stalls, Rialto Mercato is closer.
Example journey times, Line 1
In the summer 2026 timetable, valid from 30 May 2026, one run leaves Piazzale Roma at 05:01, Ferrovia at 05:04, reaches Rialto Mercato at 05:17 and Rialto at 05:20. That is 19 minutes from Piazzale Roma and 16 minutes from the station on that run. Waiting time is not included, and other times of day can differ.
Example journey times, Line 2
One Line 2 run in the same timetable leaves Piazzale Roma at 07:01 and Ferrovia at 07:05, and reaches Rialto at 07:16. That is 15 and 11 minutes. Not every Line 2 trip runs through every section, so check the timetable for your hour.
Night service
Night line N connects toward Rialto. Check current stops and departures on the day. Details on riding the canal are at vaporetto Line 1.

Compared at a glance.
| Option | How it works | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Vaporetto | Line 1 or 2 to Rialto | Ticket required, validate on boarding |
| On foot | From Piazzale Roma via Santa Croce, or from San Polo along the Ruga degli Orefici | No fixed walking time; allow extra for crowds and bridges with steps |

Walking, driving and taxis in detail
What to expect on each route.
Walking
The city's cultural routes join Piazzale Roma to the market through Santa Croce, and San Polo to Rialto along the Ruga degli Orefici. Allow extra time, because the walk from the station or the car terminal depends on crowds and on your pace.
By car
Piazzale Roma is the car terminal for the historic centre. From there you continue on foot or by water. The municipal garage costs €35 per undivided 24 hours, is open around the clock and takes vehicles up to 2.20 m high. Reserve online no later than midnight the day before. An evening rate of €15 applies only to short stays entirely between 17:00 and 05:00. It cannot be booked online and does not apply at Redentore or on 31 December.
Parking for drivers with disabilities
Drivers with disabilities get up to 12 hours free when capacity allows, and half the standard rate from 12 to 14 hours. The garage offers the reduced rate to a maximum of 14 vehicles, so a space is not guaranteed.
Water taxi
There are two taxi stands near the bridge, Cerva and Carbon. Taxis are separate from the vaporetto lines. Check the current rate before you board.
Step-free access
The bridge is crossed by stairs. The city's accessible route serves the market district by boat, but it does not include a step-free crossing of the Rialto Bridge. If steps are a problem, plan to view the bridge from the water or from the Riva del Vin and the market side.
